Ron Swanson Cake

Based on the mask design by illustrative wizard Jon Defreest, this cake by Liz Shim perfectly emulates America’s favorite Libertarian Boss from Parks and Recreation. Spoiler alert: as far as I know, the cake is sadly *not* flavored with all the bacons and eggs.

THis is so impressive

now-ever:

loosely inspired by one incredible miniature that was drawn to represent the erstwhile king of nagaur, rajasthan, in his pleasure  garden…..the core idea, the division of space in squares is the char bagh (originally a persian type consisting of a square sub-divided into four equal parts by water channels, symbolic of garden of paradise, adopted in India when the mughal rulers settled here.) Hindu rulers however did not adopt this idea in an islamic-paradise context…it being rather antithetical to Indian thought and culture. Thus the designer had not to be concerned about the paradise imagery.
My rendition is also only borrowing the form. The symbols add the new meaning…a residence of the Self. Much like the King was at play in his pleasure gardens, amidst beauty and refinery….For the Self is forever the King…always in possession of its kingdom…(even in seeming chaos).
